Got everything?
Tickets? Passport? Good book? Great. Now here, in no particular order whatsoever, are a few tips to help make your hols the relaxing experience they're meant to be!
1. Jabs
It's always a good idea to check with your GP whether or not you need vaccinations for your dream holiday destination.
2. Milk and papers
Remember to cancel them!
3. Lost passport
No, doesn't bear thinking about. So before you go, make a couple of copies of your passport info. Keep one with you and leave the second copy at home.
4. Local lingo
It's only polite to learn a few words of the local language, along with some of the local customs.
5. Making contact
Leave a copy of your travel plans with family and friends so you can be contacted in case of an emergency.
6. Suncare
Can't be too careful. Particularly with children. Remember to take a hat, a high factor sun cream, and lots of sun block.
7. Left luggage
Don't leave your luggage unattended in public places and don't accept packages from strangers.
8. Don't be a target
To avoid being a target of crime, try not to wear conspicuous clothing or jewellery. And remember not to leave stuff on the back seat of your car.
9. Beware of bugs
No flies on you! Be prepared. Remember to pack your insect repellent.
10. Spending money
Common sense really. Always take a mixture of currency and traveller's cheques with you and remember not to keep all your money in one place.
And one last travel tip for luck...
Pet care
Make sure your four-legged friends are booked into a kennel or cattery in plenty of time. Or ask a friend or neighbour to pop round and keep Tiddles in cat food until your safe return.
If you're taking your pet away with you, you can get travel cover for them with Virgin Pet Insurance.
